FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What GROUP Volunteering opportunities do you have?
Sydney
Sorting new clothing and fulfilling client orders for groups of 15-20, or up to 40 for two groups taking part in our ‘gamified’ volunteering experience.
Our fulfillment centre in Banksmeadow is where a lot of the magic happens. It’s the heart of where we receive and distribute brand new clothing. We welcome volunteers to assist us in sorting clothing into categories and sizes as well as fulfil orders by picking clothing and packing it for distribution. Volunteers hear from our CEO and people who have utilised our services. It’s a great team building day where everyone will walk away with a sense of accomplishment.
Melbourne
We can host smaller groups of up to 5 volunteers to support us with preparing and merchandising our Mobile Wardrobe and delivering the service to clients at our charity partner locations.

Overview of Thread Together
Presentation by a member of the Thread Together team including facts and figures, an eye opener into fashion waste and the sadly growing need for clothing in our community.
Induction:
Orientation and induction presentation which includes safety content (e.g. lifting, location of exits, evacuation process etc.)
Activity: Sorting, picking & Packing
There are two key volunteering activities:
1) Main Warehouse – Sorting: Clothing donations from our Fashion Partners are sorted into product categories and sizes.
Tasks typically involve unpacking boxes and then sorted into Thread Together cartons (may include opening pre-cut box lids, unpacking and capturing details of items).
2) Packing area – Order Fulfilment: Orders placed online are picked and carefully packed.
Tasks typically involve selecting clothing orders from the day’s list and fulfilling them by picking the items from the pick bays and packing the items in boxes ready for Toll collection.
Impact Stories
Thread Together will share examples of the differences that this service and by association, the volunteers, are making to the many vulnerable people in our community.
Storytelling is often provided by a beneficiary of our service or one of our charity partners.
Do I need to wear special clothing?
Just comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes.
Are there any special requirements or skills?
Above all, a positive, can-do attitude!
There is also an amount of physical work involving sorting and packing the clothing. We will provide you with basic health & safety training including tips on lifting.
When picking clothing items for dispatch you’ll need to be able to judge the suitability of each garment for purpose. If items are unavailable, you’ll need to identify suitable alternatives.
You will be expected to maintain confidentiality in line with Thread Together’s policies.
Is there a fee to organise a corporate volunteer day?
We charge a small fee for corporate volunteer experiences. We will confirm this with you once we have discussed your requirements for the session.
